For her second solo show at Stigter Van Doesburg “Sports Memorabilia, Signed and Everything”, Dina Danish presents a collection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures that look into sports memorabilia, especially those from US collections. For the last two years, Danish has been trying to consider sports memorabilia as a specific aesthetic and how it can be contextualized within art. The paintings and sculptures filling up the gallery will include shaped canvases resembling sports t-shirts and baseball caps, signed wood-patterned ceramic baseball bats, and Fayoum portraits combined with compositions taken from football cards.
Her video An
Audience in Hiding, is showing an audience looking at art works is combined with the sound of a tennis
commentator. Instead of commenting on a tennis match, the typical Wimbledon
sounding voice describes the audience’s physical appearance and movements
throughout an art fair.
They said:
I’m really proud of you guys
No one gave us a chance
We shocked the world
There’s no “I” in team
A win’s a win (110%)
Superman needs no seat belt
“I love to hit people, I love to”
It’s hard to be humble, when you’re so great
It doesn't get any better than this
It is what it is
Us against the world
a string of wins, a run of victories (110 %)
“I like control, I’m patient”
